"Softwood" is 648.10ha (1601.46 acres), freehold tenure located 12km north of Baralaba on the Olinda Road which is part bitumen sealed and gravel formed road. Baralaba is a small town on the Dawson River approximately 77km north of Moura and 90km from Biloela. This is a rural grazing, mixed farming area and is serviced by a school, hospital and basic shopping. Rockhampton is 135km away and is the nearest major centre to the property. There are three abattoirs nearby - two in Rockhampton and one in Biloela, with live-weight cattle sale yards located at Moura, Biloela and Gracemere. Electricity and telephone are available to the property and a school bus services the area.

The property comprises of a rectangular shaped parcel of land which is mostly brigalow, blackbutt, bottle tree scrub soils with forest influences of box and ironbark in parts. There is a remnant ridge on the eastern boundary which contains narrowleaf ironbark, rosewood and wattle. Soils are mostly heavier clays in the scrub country, becoming gravelly into the ridge country. Softwood is watered by two open-earth dams (approx 10,000 cubic metres) and one smaller earth dam. The block is securing enclosed with conventional-style 4 barbed wire and timber post fences which are generally maintained in fair to good stock proof condition. Internally, the property is subdivided into 3 internal paddocks. There are a set of older, timber cattle yards with pound and head bail on the property.
